An Eternal Question. Answered By Resident Experts.
Finding words to express one’s personal idea of beauty may prove difficult for some. Not so for the visionaries along El Paseo. They’ve chosen a beautiful business setting — and they know a thing or two about expressing themselves.

BEAUTY IS… SEEING THE SPLENDOR IN THE SIMPLE THINGS.
Acknowledging the grand with the small, loving yourself where you are while allowing yourself to evolve, and recognizing the value of your whole self.

… IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER.
At least that’s what they often say when they talk about art. This year we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the gallery that my father started in 1976 in Germany. From him I learned the most important things about art. Beauty in art is originality, because it is easy to copy someone else, but it is beautiful to be unique and original. Beauty is consistency, because it is easy to be lucky, but it’s beautiful to create quality year after year after year. Beauty is passion, because it is easy to do what people want, but it is beautiful to follow your own passion and your vision regardless of what anybody else thinks. More than anything, beauty is deceiving, because what seems beautiful to the untrained eye at first is often shallow after all. To find true beauty, one must be open-minded, learn, appreciate, and look beyond the obvious. The reward is beautiful!

… GLOWING FROM WITHIN.
No amount of makeup, hair products, fabulous, expensive clothes/jewelry (even purchased on El Paseo) can make you feel good about yourself if you are not healthy and happy from within. As a dental hygienist dedicated to oral health, and a yoga instructor dedicated to systemic health, I know I feel my best when my body and mind are functioning properly.

… STARTING OFF THE WEEKEND IN YOUR BEST OUTFIT FOR AN AMAZING BRUNCH.
At Wilma & Frieda’s, we are not just food … we are a brunching experience. We like to bring out the beauty and pureness in food — from the freshest berries, local dates, and honey, to the ripest avocados California has to offer. We build our menu around fresh, beautiful, seasonal products to create the best brunching experience in the desert.

… LIVING WITH ART SURROUNDING ME EVERY DAY.
Not only does it enhance the aesthetic of my environment, but it is good for the soul!
Lisa Dempton, gallery director, A Gallery Fine Art
In my personal life and working at Leeds & Son Fine Jewelers, I look for, celebrate, and help others to commemorate moments of love in its many forms. A proposal, the birth of a child, showing kindness or helping a total stranger. Those are all beautiful moments from the heart to be celebrated.
Christine Stein, community relations director and family member, Leeds & Son Fine Jewelers
… WHAT IS BEAUTY, REALLY?
Sure, we could agree beauty is a pleasant shape, or the perfect use of color, or the scent of spring. While those are forms of beauty, we at Mares Menswear feel beauty goes beyond the five senses. We see and feel beauty in the eyes of our guests, the very instant their enjoyment merges with their comfort! Beauty is feeling your best. We also find beauty when customers return and we chase the time with laughter, sharing memories of our experiences since last we were together. Beauty can be shared, and that should be celebrated. If you believe it’s time to show and share your beauty, stop by, step in, and let’s enjoy it together.

… TO DO A SIMPLE THING THE RIGHT WAY.
This relates to how we operate our gallery. We purchase beautiful product; display our product beautifully; attract beautiful clients; create beautiful environments in homes and gardens; and take pride in the simplicity of filling our client’s needs and wants. Offering fine things to create fine environments is very simple — and beautiful.

… YOUR OWN DESIGN ASPIRATIONS.
It’s fluid, always changing, and adapting to fit our individual vision. We never put beauty in a box, recognizing every style and aesthetic has its place. Our goal is to provide unlimited possibilities to create the space of your dreams, whatever it may be.
Summer Kath, senior vice president of business development, Cambria
It provokes a feeling of happiness and admiration. Beauty can be nature, art, an animal, a sunset, a person, a song. Everyone loves to feel beautiful. Confidence is an important part of projecting beauty to others. The right outfit, accessory, or hairstyle can be transformational.

… THE JOY OF SHOWING SOMEBODY SOMETHING THEY’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE.
And, beauty is … making the perfect plate: looks good, tastes good, and is good for you. The cacophony of colors in nature — the red of a chili, the unbelievably piercing yellow of turmeric, the greens of fresh-dried herbs, the gold of a local honey, the jet of a good black tea. From magenta to orange, the colors are here to be seen and tasted. The accomplishment of helping someone make something fresh and delicious. In a job well done — helping them find exactly what they need or want. Teaching a new cooking technique to bring flavor back into their diet. And the precision of a well-organized store.
Mary Cardas, owner, Savory Spice Shop
… EARLY MORNINGS, WHEN I STEP OUTSIDE.
With my little dog Bear, looking at our beautiful desert mountains, the magical crispness, and blue skies — that is beauty to me. And, beauty is … my work. BB.one, my fashion store at The Gardens on El Paseo, allows me the opportunity to create beauty through a combination of qualities such as shape, color, and style making women look more beautiful and attractive!
