SHEAR HAIR DESIGN EL PASEO
Alma Diaz discovered her passion for precision hair styling when she was 18, volunteering to help shampoo at a salon where her friends worked in L.A. She moved to the desert in 1997 with 17 years of experience and salon ownership under her belt. Here, she became a celebrity stylist. Diaz worked at hotel salons in Palm Springs, where the stars stayed during the Palm Springs International Film Festival. “Coming from L.A., I never imagined I would be doing celebrities’ hair in the desert!” she says. Eleven years ago, Diaz purchased an existing salon, Shear Hair Design, on El Paseo. “The original owner, Racheal Rodriguez, opened it 40 years ago with her sister and still works with me,” she explains. The fullservice salon has a staff of nine hairdressers and one esthetician — with a renowned reputation for painless body waxing, gorgeous eyebrow and arch design, and rejuvenating facials with the Le Mieux skincare line.
In order to be successful, you have to love what you do — and I love what I do. Continuing education, working closely as a team of talented stylists, and learning from each other has helped us grow to be one of the longest established salons on El Paseo and in the desert. SIGNATURE LOOK: I keep it simple for myself, but my clients love to change their look.

FAVORITE ITEM IN STORE:
Right now it’s the Brazilian Blowout Split End Repairing Treatment. I have been using it on all my clients who have a problem with split ends; now they request it as a service.
EL PASEO HANGOUTS:
il Corso stays open later; I love to meet friends there after an event or to grab a bite to eat in the bar area. A mixed crowd makes it fun to people watch. They have a fantastic menu, nice wine list, and we love Chef Mario. For a fun, upbeat atmosphere, Tommy Bahama.
